Karla Camila Cabello Estrabao (born March 3, 1997) is a Cuban-American/Mexican-American singer-songwriter & actress. She is a former member of Fifth Harmony with Ally Brooke, Normani Kordei, Dinah Jane, and Lauren Jauregui, who originally auditioned for The X Factor out of Greensboro, North Carolina. Her first single outside the group was in 2015 with Canadian singer Shawn Mendes' "I Know What You Did Last Summer" from his album Handwritten. She also collaborated with rapper Machine Gun Kelly on his single "Bad Things" in late 2016. The song later appeared on MGK's 2017 album bloom. She left the group on December 18, 2016. Camila is a Mezzo-Soprano with three octaves, three notes, and one semitone.

In 2017, Cabello prepared for the release of her debut solo album whilst also scoring features with artists such as Cashmere Cat, Pitbull and J Balvin. The lead single from her debut album, The Hurting. The Healing. The Loving., "Crying in the Club" was released on May 19 2017. She also announced a song from the album titled "I Have Questions", which was released to coincide with her BBMA performance of the song on May 21 2017. As a solo artist, she has performed at the Kids Choice Awards ("Bad Things" with Machine Gun Kelly), the MTV Movie and Television Awards ("Hey Ma" with Pitbull and J Balvin) and the Billboard Music Awards ("Crying In The Club" and "I Have Questions"). Her debut album Camila was released on January 12, 2018.

Personal Life

Born in Cojimar, Cuba as Karla Camila Cabello-Estrabao, she moved to the United States at the age of six. Her mother, Sinuhe Cabello (born: Sinuhe Estrabao), is Cuban and her father, Alejandro Cabello, is Mexican. She is the older sister of Sofia Cabello. Camila did a cover of "Skyscraper" on YouTube. She was formerly known to often have a large bow in her hair. Her mother, Sinuhe, said that instead of a traditional quinceanera party, she wanted to audition for the X-Factor. She was in a relationship with singer Austin Mahone in 2014. She is currently in a relationship with the British dating coach, Matthew Hussey.

The X Factor

Audition

Camila auditioned for The X Factor in NC. She first auditioned for the producers part of the audition and got the call back saying that she will audition for the judges as an alternative, meaning that if after the show if they were to have time then she would be able to audition, After the show, Camila was ready to sing for the judges, but then the producers told her that there was not any time left, and she started to cry. Then she saw Simon and asked him if she could audition, and he said yes. After her audition, she got a yes from all four judges, but it's unknown what most of them said. Demi Lovato said that she wanted Camila to try a more pop song for boot camp.[5] It has been revealed that they didn't show her audition because X-Factor didn't have the rights to the song "R.E.S.P.E.C.T.." She stated though that when she isn't singing, all she does is sing karaoke and watch One Direction videos. They showed this small portion in the Finals episode.

Bootcamp

Camila sang "Back to Black" by the late Amy Winehouse during the first boot camp task. It was not shown, but she is seen during Tara Simon's. She is also seen saying "I'm so jittery" in the beginning of the episode. On her second boot camp task, she performs the song Your Song by Elton John against competitor Jordan Shane. She was later eliminated by the judges and is seen crying and being hugged by possibly her mother. After elimination, Camila was called back to the stage and was put into Fifth Harmony.

Judges' Houses

At the judges' home, the girls performed "Impossible" by Shontelle. After the performance, Simon Cowell has said that Impossible was actually the reason he fell in love with the group, and he put them through to the live shows.

Performances

Known as the "funny one" in the group and for her jazzy-style vocals, Camila and the girls took on songs that allowed them to showcase their vocal abilities. Despite LA Reid and Britney Spears not loving them as much as the other judges during the competition, the Fifth Harmony girls wowed the public enough to get voted through every week and had the support and confidence of their mentor Simon Cowell, who adored them and never had a problem telling them how proud he was of them.

Upon finishing third on the show, Camila and the other girls signed with Syco Music and Epic Records and went on several tours before releasing their debut EP, after which two albums soon followed before Camila decided to follow her heart and leave the group.

Better Together, Reflection and 7/27

In late 2013, Fifth Harmony released five versions of their debut extended play, Better Together; the original, an acoustic version, a remixes EP, a Spanish version (Juntos) and a Spanish acoustic version. Throughout all of the EPs, Cabello had the most time on solos, opening two songs and leading or co-leading the majority of the songs on the EPs. The EPs were preceded by the single "Miss Movin' On", which was the first-ever song by an X Factor US act to chart on the Billboard Hot 100, and promotional singles "Me & My Girls" and "Better Together".

In 2014, Fifth Harmony began recording songs for their debut album. That year, the first two singles from the album, "BO$$" and "Sledgehammer", were released. On February 3, 2015, the album Reflection was released. A month later, the single "Worth It" was released; Camila gained notability for leading the song, which at the time was their most popular song, peaking at #12 on the Hot 100. Once again, Camila had the most time on solos and was the only group member to have a full-fledged solo in all songs from the album.

In 2016, Fifth Harmony released their sophomore album 7/27, preceded by their most popular song to date, "Work From Home." It was then followed by singles "All In My Head (Flex)" and "That's My Girl." This album was Camila's last with Fifth Harmony before departing from the group. Similar to their last two projects, Camila had a greater time spent on solos than the other girls throughout the majority of the songs.

Departure from Fifth Harmony

On December 18, 2016, Fifth Harmony released a statement that said that they had been informed via her representatives that Cabello had decided to leave the group, and the four remaining girls (Dinah, Normani, Lauren, and Ally) would continue as a four-piece. Camila then released her own statement sharing her feelings on the matter and moved into 2017 as a full-time solo artist.
